The First Timer's Guide to Bingo
You've probably heard of Bingo. Maybe you have memories of playing a Bingo game on family game night or in grade school. After all, this easy game started gaining popularity in the United States around the 1920s!
Still, you probably have a thing or two to learn before playing Bingo more seriously. It's an incredibly fun game, and once you've grasped the basics you can win money and have an excellent evening.
How Does Bingo Work?
At its core, Bingo is a simple game of chance. It's often played in a Bingo hall, although there are online forms of Bingo games as well. The rules are simple enough to follow, but you'll need to be quick and pay attention if you want to win!
If you're new to the game or just need a refresher before you step into the Bingo room, follow the tips below. You'll know what to expect for your next game!
Get Your Bingo Cards
Bingo cards are the crucial elements in any Bingo game. They consist of horizontal lines, five columns across and five down for a total of 25 individual squares. The letters B-I-N-G-O are at the top of the card with a free space in the middle. The squares are randomly assigned numbers attached to each letter. For example, Bingo calls could include things like G51, B12, N33, and so on.
For the best chances of winning, play Bingo with more than one scorecard. Your local Bingo hall might have a cap on how many cards you can play, but the best rule of thumb is to purchase as many as you can handle.
Alternatively, you can play Bingo on a computer! Bingo computers allow you to play many more cards at once than you would be able to daub. This gives you a greater chance of winning.
Pay Attention to the Caller
A Bingo caller reads the numbers off Bingo balls. As soon as you hear them, use your dauber to mark any numbers off your Bingo card. If using a computer, it will automatically mark them for you.
Depending on the game, the caller will also tell you which numbers are "wild" or "free." They will also tell you the game that is being played or if they are starting a round of Pull Tabs. Be sure to sit where you can hear the bingo caller clearly. Also, watch the TV monitors as they will show you the ball camera and the next ball that will be called!
Know the Rules
Standard Bingo games have a predetermined pattern for winning. Five in a row, four corners, blackout, and X are usual ways of playing. Some types of bingo halls come up with unique terms and ways to win, though, so familiarize yourself with the offerings so you know how to win Bingo.
The usual Bingo rules state that the first person to get five numbers in a row (diagonally, horizontally, or vertically) and announce it by shouting "Bingo!" wins. Occasionally, there are multiple winners. Bingo tickets are unique, but it's still possible for two or more people to win at the same time!
Play Bingo Games for Fun
For the best Bingo experience possible, play for a good time! It's a great way to spend the day.
